Everton v Wolves Match Thread

📅 Saturday August 26th 2023
KO 3pm
🏟 Goodison Park

I've been lucky enough, thanks I have to say, to the kindness and generosity of some lovely Evertonian friends of the Mrs, to witness a number of Everton v Wolves fixtures in recent years, and I was looking forward to another trip this weekend it being close to my birthday and all. However due to the fact that these previous games have all been away victories, I am now it appears banned from Merseyside on such occasions. She's taking me to Lichfield instead on the bus. C'est la vie.

20th v 19th tells its own story, the toffees have had a marginally worse start to the season than us, failing to score so far and (here comes the most commonly used phrase in football folks) Dominic Calvert- Lewin will again be missing through injury. The world's most fragile man this time has a broken face.

Wolves will be without the brainless Matheus Nunes paving the way for a possible first start for either Boubacar Traore or Joe Hodge.

Goldi's prediction: 0-0
Unless that is they sign Che Adams between now and Saturday, in which case 1-0

Given the rumours now circulating it does look like Wolves will spend a chunk of the money coming in for Nunes and probably Podence.

Iheanacho of Leicester being linked now.

Guedes will join Benfica on loan again this week. But it looks like Ait Nouri will be staying. Nice we’re only offering a loan with an option to buy and that’s no help for Wolves

Kelechi would be a good signing I think

Wolves playing a dangerous game with Nunes. The player is unhappy the transfer has not yet been rubber stamped and has evidently refused to train today. Need to sort this because being left with an unhappy player on our books wouldn’t help anyone

Agreed. He might throw a tantrum in extra time and get himself sent off.

The wife thinks I'm being really generous booking holidays abroad in September and October during the football season. Glad she doesn't realise these things are booked to fit with international breaks.

Think I did better than that. We were househuntiing and wifey, who hates Wolverhampton and after mainly looking at Worcester, fell in love with a house in Amblecote which we subsequently bought.

Clean forgot to tell her that it's 9 miles from the Molineux.

Some press reports that the delay in finalising the sale of Nunes to City is because Liverpool may look to gazump the deal. Good for Wolves if that helps boost the price but time is short if Wolves are going to make use of the income before the transfer deadline

Seems McAtee and Doyle are being discussed as part of the deal to take Nunes to City. Not sure how much they are being priced at as part of the deal, but City evidently don’t want to sell McAtee so that may only be a loan arrangement

Wolves are accepting that they won’t get the £12m they were hoping for from selling Podence so a deal for less than £10m looks more likely.

On the positive side it seems Moenchengladbach are prepared to reduce the €10m price they were looking for from Elvedi. As an alternative to him Wolves have evidently enquired about Rob Holding from Arsenal

Holding could be a decent addition

Evidently Nunes is now wondering whether City are genuinely interested in signing him. They seem to have gone very quiet since Bernardo Silva signed a contract extension.
